THE ISLAND

I miss the smell of sand and the calm of the palm trees
I reminisce on the nights on the beach
The late night swims and the humid air
I miss the wind as I drove and the unpredictable rain
The mismatched cuisine and the warm smiles
The people, the greenery, the buses.
I miss the bookshop and the grocery store
The lady across the road selling hotdogs
And the gentleman right opposite with amazing fries
I miss the culture and the whimsical capital
The hidden gems on the outskirts
And the blue waters
The island felt like home.
Until we meet again.
